St. Charles Lawn Care Tips

With lawn care in St. Charles, MO right around the corner, there is a few things homeowners have to do to make sure their lawn is in proper shape for the up and coming lawn season. Making sure all the leaves are gone is very important. If the leaves are left on the ground the grass will turn yellow and if they stay on the grass long enough the grass will die. During the winter months the grass receives the least amount of sunlight. This is even more of a issue because grass and plants need sunlight in order to make photosynthesis to work. Once the leaves are off the ground the grass will begin to turn back green. The longer the leaves are on the grass the longer it will take for the grass to snap back. The St. Charles Lawn Care season begins around April, 1st each year. This will vary depending on the current climate but the average is around the 1st of April. The leaves sticks and yard debris needs to be removed prior to this time. This should be done prior to the 1st frost. Cleaning the leaves can go along way to ensure your St. Charles lawn is in the best situation prior to the lawn care season.

Chesterfield Leaf Removal techniques

Learning how exactly to remove the leaves, given the situation your are in is important. If you have a newly seeded lawn it is recommended to remove the leaves with a leaf blower rather than a rake. The roots are not strong enough to withstand a violate raking or pulling. If the grass is mature and you have not planted the grass in the fall then using a rake is ok to do. The rake will not pull up the grass in a normal situation. Leaf Removal in Chesterfield is a must. Chesterfield has some of the oldest trees here in the St. Louis area. They also have alot of mature trees planted right next to the street. In Chesterfield Leaf Removal is a must the leaves pile up quickly and hiring a company to clean them up is recommend because it may take up to 6 hours to do it without commercial equipment. If the leaves are to much Greenside does offer St. Charles Lawn Care to St. Charles and Chesterfield, MO

Right now St. Charles Lawn Care is starting to take a notice. Every year people want to get a jump start on their lawn in order to have a great lawn. One idea is to tear up the lawn in the spring in order to have a good looking lawn this year. I personally would not recommend doing that, for a few reasons. Right now the grass is dormant and doing any work on the lawn until the grass reaches a average temperature of 55 degrees for more than 7 days in a row is strongly recommended. Once the grass reaches that temperature weeds will begin to seed. After tearing up the lawn and destroying the only protection you have your are exposing your entire lawn to weeds. After tearing up the lawn you will have to seed. The problem is once the seeds are laid down nothing can stop the weeds from planting their seeds in your lawn as well. The weeds can germinate in almost any type of soil but its is a dream for them to sprout in a wet and irrigated environment. You cannot seed and kill weeds at the same time. You can do one or the other but not both. So in summary, We do not recommend doing any extensive St. Charles Lawn Care lawn rehab work at this time. We recommend doing that work in the fall when the weeds are not active and the grass is still actively growing.

It is that time of the year again. It’s time to apply the preemergent crabgrass preventer. In the fall the crabgrass dies and releases seeds these seeds stay on your lawn all winter and will start to grow when the ground temperature reaches 55 degrees or higher for 7 days in a row. St. Charles Lawn Care homeowners should put this application down now. This application is one of the most important applications we offer because it gives St. Charles Lawn Care homeowners the greenest yard on the block. It is important that you apply this when the ground is dry. It is not recommended to apply any granular fertilizer to a wet yard.
It is almost that time again. Its time for St. Charles Aeration. Some homeowners in the St. Charles, MO area do not know the real true reason why aeration is needed. When is comes to finding out if your lawn actually needs aeration you should 1st look at the type of soil you have. Notice I said “soil” here in St. Charles, MO we have good old Missouri clay. This is why Aeration in St. Charles is so important. What normally happens is that when new homes are built they scrape the good soil away prior to building homes. So normally the grass would soak in the water and would prevent puddling; however, the clay acts like concrete and the water never reaches the roots. This is why St. Charles Aeration is needed. Once the plugs are pulled up the water will settle in the ground instead of running off. Its is important that the ground is soft prior to aeration. This will allow for the deepest plugs when you aerate.

Leaf removal in Chesterfield, MO is very important because the leaves cover the grass and will block the grass from receiving the sunlight to grow. In Chesterfield leaf removal can be hard to do because the trees are fully matured and drop numerous amount of leaves. It is recommended to clear the leaves at least every 7 days. If working a full time job it maybe hard to clear them. This time of year, the grass is only receiving a small amount of sun and that amount is vital to the process of photosynthesis.

If attempting leaf removal in chesterfield with newly planted grass using a hand held blower is highly recommended over using a rake for leaf removal. Using a rake will pull up the newly planted grass. We use state of the art leaf blowers to blow the lawn completely clean of leaves and we can get in hard to reach places, like around bushes and flowers. The leaves you collect can be useful for your garden or compost bin. Since here in Chesterfield our soil is made of clay, having a compost bin to create new rich compost, combined with dirt, can create better soil for your garden than even the best store bought products.

Leaf removal is a important process to having that green lush lawn homeowners long live for. A simple task of racking the leaves can help your lawn have that jump start it needs to have the 1st green lawn on the block. if leaf removal in chesterfield is a daunting task.
Aeration

Core Aeration in St. Charles is a very important part of achieving the best St. Charles lawn on the block. St. Charles lawn need aeration at least once a year. Aeration is the process of de-compacting the soil. This will allow water and oxygen to enter the root systems and will absorb more fertilizer. This will prevent a run off of water during a heavy rain storm. More water will filter down into the soil. Aerating your St. Charles lawn in very important to do at least once a year.

How to prepare for Aeration

In order to have a successful aeration there is a few preparations that must be done. The soil must be soft. This helps the metal spikes to dig into the soil. The plugs should range from 1-2 inches in depth. once the core aeration is complete, it is recommended to overseed. details on how overseeding is beneficial to your lawn click Here

Greenside Lawn Care Reveals O’Fallon Aeration Tips

In case your lawn has been compacted by high-traffic or you’ve noticed that it doesn’t drain as easily as it once did, or that water has a tendency to run off slopes much faster than before, it’s likely your lawn should be aerated.

Aeration is now the preferred approach to decrease soil compaction as well as break up the thatch layer. In O’Fallon Aeration mechanically removes small plugs of soil and thatch from your lawn to provide for air, nutrients and water to reach the root system where they may be more easily utilized. Normally, annual aeration is sufficient for a good healthy lawn while heavily compacted soils may require additional aeration.

A thick thatch layer or compacted soil reduces the penetration of water in the soil. Thatch layers can repel water, thereby making it less possible to obtain a good soak of water down to the root zone. Bits of your lawn are removed with each plug so that surface air and the root zone below the soil surface can interact with one another. The aeration process will leave plugs on the lawn but these will decompose in a few weeks.

In the event you don’t aerate your lawn’s soil, your grass roots will tend to weave themselves into one another rather than growing downward in to the soil. Aeration helps to increased root activity as your grass roots branch out and face less competition from the compacted soil which ends up in a thicker more robust lawn.

Greenside Lawn Care in O’Fallon Aeration can be done in the Spring and Fall

Aeration needs to be performed at least one time per season either in the spring or fall. Compacted earth and thatch can prevent water and fertilizer from deeply penetrating the soil, this tends to make the roots of the lawn to grow near the surface. Core aeration breaks up the compacted soil allowing the water, fertilizer and air to saturate into the root zone. Aerated lawns are better able to tolerate periods of summer drought as a result of deeper root growth that aeration promotes.

Weeds can tolerate compacted soils much better than your grass can, therefore your weeds have a germinating and growth advantage over your grass should your lawn not be properly aerated. The soil cores or “plugs” which are pulled out of your lawn will break apart on the lawn surface and mix with the underlying thatch and help to accelerated the decomposition of the thatch layer. In the area of O’Fallon Aeration is among the best steps you can take to create a healthy, thick and robust lawn.

A superior aeration is accomplished when the soil has a higher moisture content. If you are contracting out the core aeration job, ask them if they would like you to water the lawn the night before they arrive at your house to do the work.
